Abstract Portrait paintings by Gabriel Karagianis
It has occurred to me that everyone on this planet lives in a different world. Even during the most intimate moment between two people they experience psychological and physical sensations completely different from each other.
What I consider abstract portrait art, is my interpretation of technology and language. From corrupted digital filing, to mass media hype and viral internet marketing, we are faced with a self-consuming frenzy of information both passive and persuasive. I refer to the work as "portrait art" to suggest a confrontation - a sense of being observed while observing. This frenzy of information is expressed in the whirling gestures and morphing shapes which, to me, resemble a world in constant flux normally hidden from us. These are sculptural paintings because the subject has been suspended in the process of becoming.
All the information is structured in an ambiguous way so it is the freedom of the viewer to interpret the information to their own liking. I paint my abstractions with a blend of geometric control and natural grace to reflect and imitate our synthetic interaction with the natural world. Thank you for participating.
